Welcome

Welcome to the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) Vancouver Chapter award-winning website. Thank you for visiting. We hope that you will take a few minutes to browse the site. If you have any questions, please contact President Kathryn Moes, CAP. We look forward to hearing from you.

If you are an employer or employee looking for information about IAAP, benefits of membership or an application form, select the About IAAP tab above.

New members can access the new member orientation package under About Vancouver/Members Only/ New Members. Members looking for meeting minutes, financial statements, and member roster will find this information in the Members Only section, too.

Members will want to build their profiles in the "Network" tab above. Log onto www.iaap-hq.org to download the User Guide. You'll soon be blogging, adding your voice to discussions about IAAP, participating in interesting eGroups, and learning more about your association.

If you are visiting from outside the Greater Vancouver area, you may like to visit the Western Canada Division (covering British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Territories) to find a chapter near you. And if you're visiting from outside Canada, you might be interested in visiting the IAAP-HQ web community.

The Tao of Everest

Incoming Vancouver Chapter President Kathryn Moes, CAP, has exciting news for you in the Summer Supplement (which will be published following our Education Forum and Annual Meeting). In the meantime, Kathy has asked me to let all of you know that she has secured Ian Woodall, mountaineer extraordinaire, to deliver our keynote speech on November 17, 2010. Ian will present The Tao of Everest - a riveting look at his determination to return to Mt. Everest to honour a promise made to another mountaineer.

While Ian is in Vancouver from November 13th - 19th, he would like to secure additional dates to share his insights. If your company or other associations are interested in booking Ian, please check his website for more information. And please spread the word to your family, friends and other professional associations. We not only want to make Ian's trip worthwhile, we also want to show our appreciation for his generosity.

You may contact Ian by email at ian@ianwoodall.com, through his website, or by phone: 011-376-360-591. Otherwise, Kathy would be happy to work with you to engage Ian.

BC/WA Education Forum

As you know, IAAP's Mission is Enhancing the success of career minded administrative professionals by providing opportunities for growth through education, community building and leadership development. And, in keeping with our Mission statement, we have changed the name of Hands Across the Border to the BC/WA Education Forum.

This year, we will be co-hosting with the Fraser Valley Chapter. We are meeting at the Coast Hotel and Conference Centre in Langley (map) from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25th. To register, simply click on the image above to open the Program/ Registration Form. An early-bird discount is available until September 15th, so don't delay!

His Worship Peter Fassbender, Mayor of Langley, will kick off our meeting. He will be followed by a terrific line-up of speakers including John Amyotte of Microsoft Canada on Consumerization of Enterprise Technology and Brian Mullen, MSc, MCP on Challenges of Leadership, Project Management and Business Analysis. Project Management was a hot topic in the results of our Membership Survey completed over the summer. In addition, we will hear from Past International President Barb Horton, CAP; Past President, Western Canada Division Barb Neuman, CAP; and current Vice-President, Western Canada Division DecolynneJo Barteski, CPS.

If you haven't been to one of these extracurricular events before, you've missed a fantastic opportunity to meet fellow IAAP members from across the Pacific Northwest (guests come from Washington State, Alaska, Oregon, and Alberta). You've also missed opportunities to learn cutting edge technology used by today's administrative professional. It's a grand day out with a serious purpose.

We do hope you can join us this year for the inaugural BC/WA Education Forum. You'll be glad you did! And, remember, there's an early bird discount if you register by September 15th.
