Vancouver Chapter

2011 - 2012 Chapter Goals

Each year, the Executive Council of the Vancouver Chapter establishes
goals to achieve during the chapter year. In the presentation below,
President, Kathryn Moes, CAP, shares the 2011-2012 Chapter Goal Strategy she has set for our
chapter this year.

These goals are designed not only to grow our chapter, but
also to provide opportunities for our members to participate
and grow as individuals. Kathy invites all of us to join her in
this ambitious project by identifying potential sponsors,
selling ad space on the website and/or in The Link, recruiting
new members, and volunteering for committees and/or standing for office. IAAP
Vancouver Chapter is a strong and vibrant chapter, but it takes all of us to
keep it a Chapter of Excellence!

Vancouver Chapter History

The Vancouver Chapter was chartered on May 17, 1958 with 14 Charter Members, some of whom are still active. We are one of the larger chapters in the association, having over 100 members.

The Vancouver Chapter currently has 115 members. Of these, 24 are Certified Professional Secretary and/or Certified Administrative Professional (a remarkably high ratio of over-achievers). Our chapter prides itself on its professionalism, commitment to quality programs and professional development. The majority of our meetings offer recertification points, which are required to recertify as a CPS or CAP (required every 5 years).

We are proud of our long-standing tradition of participation at the district and division levels of IAAP. A number of Western Canada Division officers, past and present, hail from the Vancouver Chapter. As well, Past International President Barb Horton, CAP, recently moved her membership from the Vancouver Chapter to the newly-formed Fraser Valley Chapter.

Guests are very welcome at our Education Forum and Monthly Business Meetings, which are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from September through June. Please access the Chapter Program for more information about our speakers in the 2010-2011 Chapter Year.

Chapter meetings follow Parliamentary procedures with Robert's Rules of Order. Here are a summary of Robert's Rules and a cheat sheet. You'll also want to understand the structure (Bylaws and Standing Rules) of the Vancouver Chapter. If you'd like to go into more detail, visit Robert's Rules of Order website.

We were pleased to sponsor the Fraser Valley Chapter to support administrative professionals in the Lower Mainland (Port Coquitlam, Langley, Surrey, etc.). IAAP-Fraser Valley Chapter chartered on December 16th, 2009 with 26 Charter Members. As President Deborah Gomersall said at the time, "Our first meeting was in October [2009] and from there the response and enthusiasm of administrative professionals in the Fraser Valley was amazing - allowing us to charter a month ahead of schedule. I believe this may be a first, chartering a chapter just after two months of meetings - an incredible accomplishment." To learn more about the new IAAP-Fraser Valley Chapter, please visit their website.

Our Speakers' Bureau would be happy to present the many benefits of membership in the International Association of Administrative Professionals to your organization. Please contact President Kathryn Moes, CAP, to schedule an appointment.

IAAP-Vancouver Chapter is proud to be a supporter of Dress for Success.  For more information about Dress for Success Vancouver, visit their website, find them on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter.
